Summer fellowship registration opens for Non-IITians at IIT Madras

IT Madras has opened registration for the Summer Fellowship Program for candidates from diverse academic backgrounds who excel with high ranks in their university examinations. The summer fellowship program is a two-month program supported by a stipend of INR 15,000.00 per month. The fellowship program is likely to commence from 18th May 2026 to 17th July 2026. Interested students can participate in the summer fellowship program upon completing the registration process. The web portal opened on 02 February 2026 shall close by 02 March 2026. Motive behind the Summer Fellowship Program:The design program enhances the awareness and interest in high-quality academic research among young engineering, management,  science, and humanities students through a goal-oriented summer internship initiated by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.



Eligibility:

  1. Candidates pursuing 3rd year of UG (BE / B.Tech / B.Sc Engg./3-year B.Sc. with Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics) or 3rd or 4th year of Integrated / Dual Degree in a master's program (M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc) or 1st year of M.Sc./M.A/ MBA.

  2. Candidates must have an outstanding academic background, including paper presentations in seminars, projects, and design contests; a high score or strong ranking in mathematics Olympiads; and awards and distinctions to date. 

Students must keep the following documents ready before registration:

  1. Before uploading the file, the student must prepare the documents according to the dimensions specified in the instruction manual. The maximum file size should not exceed 2MB, and the file format should be PDF; photos can be in JPEG or PNG.

  2. The student documents to be uploaded include a recent passport-size photo, category certificate, Aadhaar card, Bonafide Certificate, class 10 & 11 marks memo, and degree marks certificate, when applicable. 

  3. The candidate must submit a short statement of purpose, in areas of scientific interest, potential major project ideas, and any other relevant information related to the fellowship program. 

  4. The candidate must remit a non-refundable application fee ( Rs. 100/-) & the payment can be through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI.

Do's & Don'ts at the IIT Madras Web portal 

  1. IIT Madras doesn't require any hard copy document submission. 

  2. Students can preview the portal using the username and password sent to their registered email address. 

  3. Students should submit the correct data digitally.  Otherwise, the screening committee shall reject the application.  

  4. The institution's head should issue a bona fide certificate in the student's name to confirm their affiliation with the college or university.
