NTA Refunds NEET Fee for 2026 Candidates, but why?

Synopsis:

Every year, NTA releases a public Notice to benefit NEET candidates eligible for an exam fee refund. Likewise, this year, NTA has opened the refund portal from May 22 to 27 until 11:50 pm. Candidates are instructed to follow the assigned refund process to obtain a refund of the examination fee paid. 

The lines below detail eligibility for an exam fee refund and the step-by-step process to initiate it. 

Candidates Eligible for the NEET 2026 Exam Fee Refund: 

There are several conditions under which a candidate can apply for an exam fee refund, and they are listed below. 

• Candidates applied for the NEET 2026 exam but withdrew from the exam at a later stage. 

• Candidates may have entered erroneous information, leading to the disqualification of their applications. The information could be incomplete details or incorrect submissions. 

• A candidate who has made multiple exam fee payments through various channels, or via an unauthenticated channel, can still apply for a fee refund. 

Important Note:

A NEET 2026 candidate must submit the following data without errors. Any incorrect data submission will result in disqualification from the exam fee refund. The data details are available in the NTA's 'Public Notice' published on 22 May 2026. The candidate must furnish the correct information on:

• Account Holder's Name as on Bank's Passbook

• IFSC Code

• Account Number

• Bank name

• Upload a scanned copy of the cancelled cheque

Step-by-step instructions to apply for exam fee refund:

In processing the exam fee refund, two important aspects should be taken into account. A student should immediately contact the helpline if the details are submitted incorrectly. The student should wait patiently for 4 to 6 weeks, as this is the bank's processing period. 

1. A candidate must visit the official web portal: nta.ac.in or neet.nta.nic.in 

2. The candidate must search for "NEET 2026 fee refund" or submit bank details via the refund links and click them.  

3. The candidate must log in to the account by using the login credentials: application number, date of birth, and security pin/password. 

4. The candidate shall display the application details and confirm the assigned fields. The fields can be the name, registration number, exam centre, and refund eligibility. The candidate must check the authenticity of the details. If they are correct, they must proceed to the next step. 

5. The candidate must enter the account details correctly: the account holder's name, the bank name, the account number, the IFSC Code, and then confirm the account details. 

6. The candidate must check the entered details and, if correct, click the confirm and submit button. 

7. The candidate can check the status using the application number/transaction number. 

Summary:

NTA prefers an online refund policy for NEET 2026 candidates, as the refund process can be easily accessed and transparent. The centralised NTAs' online refund process keeps transactions fast, reduces delays and paperwork. The online refund process enables candidates to view the tracking status periodically.
