National Medical Commission increases the provision of medical seats in Telangana by 810 ahead of the NEET 2026 result declaration. With the news, NEET 2026 candidates in the Telangana Region can take a back seat and relax, as the increase in seats will provide a comfortable score range across all categories.

2. In addition, it describes the need for essential documentation that a medical college must submit to MARB before being allotted additional medical seats in existing colleges or newly established ones.
According to the NMC, new government medical colleges comprise 400 seats, and private medical colleges contribute 2000 seats; the seat matrix may change if they do not come under the purview of the MARB. What is the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB)? The most important board that decides the fate of the medical college seats, their approvals and disapprovals, in fact, can change the seat matrix as well. For the academic year 2026- 27, the medical seat matrix intake is 1,36,939 across 823 medical institutions. The existing intake capacity is 1,27,028; the newly approved seats are 9,911, indicating an expansion of medical education in India.
Before we get into the details, let us look at the statistical data of the medical seat allotment, which needs to be approved by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board ( MARD).
All India:
Across the nation, there are 441 government medical colleges with 63,296 seats, including 61,185 renewed seats and 2,111 new approvals.
Likewise, there are 382 private medical colleges with 73,643 seats. Of them, 65,843 are renewed seats, and an additional 7,800 new seats have been approved.
The figures show a significant increase in the number of medical seats in the private sector.
Telangana State:
For Telangana State, MARB allotted additional MBBS seats compared with the previous year, bringing the total to 10,250.
In the list, GMC Siddipet & GMC Mahabubnagar have been allotted 25 additional seats each, while the GMC Nizambad has been allotted 30 more seats.
In the list of private colleges, MNR, Sangareddy, Maheshwara and Shadan were alloted 100 additional seats. Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Malla Reddy Medical College for Women, Mamata Academy and SVS have been allotted 50 additional seats each.
The revised seat matrix will be used for NEET-UG 2026 counselling.
The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) is responsible for approving the establishment of new medical MBBS colleges or increases in the intake capacity of existing medical MBBS colleges.
Private medical colleges should furnish the requisite Electronic Bank Guarantee (E-Bank Guarantee) to the Director, Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) at the National Medical Commission.
The essential submission should be complete within 7 working days from the date of the issuance of the public notice.
The private colleges should submit the details of the E-Bank Guarantee through email at gugmarb@nmc.org.in and pratap.ram@nic.in.
MARB shall issue a letter of permission (LoP) to the private college only after the Electronic Bank Guarantee has been received and found to be in order.
The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) for the Academic Year 2026–27 approves the number of seats for admission to medical colleges, and colleges should abide by the rules and regulations.
Admissions should not exceed the approved intake capacity; if any, they shall be treated as a violation of the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019

When compared to NEET 2025, the increase in the total number of seats in Telangana State (2026) is 790, while the increase in the total number of seats in All India (2026) is 9,911.
