Synopsis:
For the second consecutive year, BITS Pilani has reserved 1000 seats (doubled from 2026) for the top 1000 BITSAT 2027 candidates from low-income backgrounds. The institution extends quality educational opportunities to this privileged class without burdening them with high tuition fees for 4 consecutive years. Group Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, V. Ramgopal Rao, said while addressing the press that the initiative will benefit students with an annual family income as low as 20 lakhs. The most interesting feature is that one in four students is receiving a scholarship in one form or another. It could be a merit-based scholarship, a need-based scholarship, full or partial scholarships and so on.
Here, the institution's values can be put to work to deliver equal opportunities to every section of society. The institutional objectives are detailed below.
The full fee waiver in BITSAT 2027 continues last year's initiative, in which a student's eligibility for the scholarship depends on the family's annual income. It should not exceed 20 lakh.
The scholarship will be extended for a 4-year undergraduate tenure.
The student must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) above 7.5 throughout the undergraduate program.
In 2026, 500 qualified students under the mentioned category received a full tuition fee waiver, while in BITSAT 2027, 1000 top qualified students under the recognised category will be the beneficiaries.
In 2026, 190 crores worth of scholarships were awarded in various forms. They include scholarships, fee concessions, and fellowships across the three levels: undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.
Of them, 101 crore was allotted in various sections, such as merit-based, merit-cum-need, and international student scholarship programs.
Similarly, the breakdown of the BITSAT 2027 scholarship funds is yet to be made public.
Candidates can find complete BITSAT 2027 program details, including scholarship details, at admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in. Students can get an overview of the BITSAT 2026 exam on this webpage.
A student need not apply for any separate scholarship forms at the time of joining the institution.
The application form will include various scholarship programs to benefit students. From the application, students can clarify tuition costs and scholarship support before deciding to enrol for the BITSAT 2027 examination.
Rising fees at the top JEE and BITS Pilani have affected middle- and low-income groups, who cannot access educational opportunities. BITS Pilani introduced fee waivers up to 100 per cent for high rankers under target family income brackets. As a result, a significant portion of admission seats are filled through a tuition-blind model that depends on merit, not ability to pay. By doing so, the university broadens campus diversity and inclusion (female students in STEM or low-income groups). Overall, alongside tuition-blind admissions for low-income groups, the institution maintains high academic standards and placement metrics and, with a strong research environment, its reputation is rising to a top national rank. In 2027, BITSAT qualifiers will get a full fee waiver provided they come under the low-income group. They will be 1000 top rankers under the low-income bracket.
The family income should not be above 20 lakhs.
One out of every four qualified students can obtain a scholarship in one or more forms, such as a merit-based scholarship, need-based scholarship, or partial scholarship, depending on the entrance examination.
BITS Pilani will offer 1000 full fee-waiver scholarships to BITSAT 2027 qualifiers, and the selection will be based on the low-income group category.
The institution has set an important criterion: the student must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 7.5.
