In India, JEE aspirants still rely on rote learning and experience victimisation by coaching institutes. In this issue, IIT Kanpur has a novel idea to help JEE aspirants escape the clutches of them and enable them to think and apply concepts efficiently. IIT Kanpur has proposed a pilot project, the Adaptive Aptitude Test Model. Intellectuals, educationalists, and academicians are responding positively, and IIT Kanpur is keen to implement the test project. The lines below outline the details of the newly proposed examination model for JEE Advanced aspirants.
IIT-JEE coaching requires a conceptual understanding of the topics, and rote learning doesn't suit highly technical courses like those at IITs. These technical courses need analytical skills and conceptual understanding of the topics. Aspirants must have a clear understanding of the concepts and their relevant applications.
To select the right kind of students at IITs, IIT Kanpur has designed a new JEE Advanced examination that assesses a candidate's essential skills for admissions to IITs in less time than ever. The testing model designed and developed by IIT Kanpur is the Adaptive Aptitude Test Model.
In adaptive testing, the exam adapts to the difficulty level the student encounters as they take it. When a student answers a question correctly on the exam, the next question will be harder than the previous one. If a candidate cannot answer a question correctly, the next question will be simpler. This concept of adaptive examination is quite applicable in foreign countries.
IIT Kanpur also designs aptitude-based questions that cover reasoning ability, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills.
IIT Kanpur plans to focus on examinations that test logical ability, comprehension, and problem-solving aptitude. Academics agree that it is hard to succeed when an exam involves extensive memorisation of formulas and data. So, the academic experts have concluded that the exam paper should include questions that assess equivalent abilities, making the selection process easier, more well-balanced, and more transparent. It is a summary of the facts tabled at the IIT Council meetings, as stated by IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal at the press conference.
The adaptive aptitude test model is a pilot project designed and developed to address gaps in selecting the right candidates for IIT institutions.
The exam for which the entire planning is to judge the analytical skills, logical reasoning, and conceptual thinking and not the rote memorisation of voluminous formulas before appearing for the JEE Advanced competitive examination.
IIT Kanpur is planning a major change to its admissions selection process.
