The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that the JEE Main 2026 exam dates will remain unchanged, and there will be no changes to the Session 1 and 2 schedules. NTA will adhere to its statement, even if these exam dates clash with any other State or national-level examination. Therefore, an aspirant planning to take any other state-level exam should refer correctly to their exam schedules to avoid the impending exam conflicts.
As per the policy, NTA communicates the Fixed Date Policy, which means that once the exam committee allots the exam date and shift, they cannot be altered to the aspirant’s convenience by any agency. An aspirant may request a change to the exam date or shift, but such a request is not approved. It means an aspirant must maintain a clear mind before selecting the date, time, and slot. It also means that an aspirant is solely responsible for choosing the date and time of the JEE Main examination, and annot hold NTA accountable for examination overlaps, whether at the Central or State level.
JEE Main 2026 is a national-level examination and the most prestigious, serving as a stepping stone to the most reputable technological institutions. These institutions include NITs, IIITs, BITS, and others. Once an applicant registers online and the application is approved, the next important step is to take the examination in Session 1 or 2, depending on the applicant's availability and convenience. NTA reserves the right to assign the day and time of the applicants' exam, whether Session 1 or 2.
The NTA’s rulebook states that an aspirant is not entitled to decide where or when to sit the examination. Although the aspirant is asked to mark the slot booking, the NTA decides whether to allot the requested exam date and slot. Assigned means aspirants have no slot-booking system.
Once an applicant applies, it is in the NTA's interest to assign the exam date and slot/shift; here, each applicant is assigned at random. Once the required slot and examination date are assigned, no approval is needed. In short, other exams allow candidates to select their preferred slot, whereas the JEE Main does not. Therefore, an aspirant must understand the rules and plan for any other exams as needed. Experts say it is high time for aspirants to plan other exams around JEE Main and avoid being dependent on last-minute changes.
When an aspirant applies for JEE Main, they should lock in their exam dates and then check all exam calendars. It is more important for an aspirant to align the exam dates with board exams and other competitive exams.
An aspirant must maintain a cool head and decide what matters the most. The future goals of the JEE Main exam prioritise the most important considerations when an aspirant faces a clash with the exact exam date and timing.
An aspirant must regularly visit the official JEE Main website and remain vigilant when official notifications and updates are published.
An aspirant must plan better to reduce stress and appear for this national-level exam with greater confidence.
NTA conducts the JEE Main exam in two Sessions in January and April each year. An aspirant can gain admission to a good engineering college by scoring well. For that reason, most aspirants aim to benefit most by taking both Sessions 1 & 2. NTA considers the best of the two scores and thus reduces the pressure of taking the toughest examination.
NTA’s decision on the fixed JEE Main 2026 exam seems quite rigid, but that's okay. An aspirant must adjust their schedule to avoid clashes with other examinations. Experts offer suggestions to help aspirants prepare for national-level examinations. They say that an aspirant must be proactive, manage the exam calendar effectively, and avoid clashes with other exams that require planning. Although JEE Main is one of the toughest examinations, an aspirant can still manage alongside other examinations if they work smartly and efficiently.
In the JEE Main exam, an aspirant has no option to select the desired date and slot of the examination. The decision on the JEE Main exam date and slot is entirely in NTA's hands.
As aspirants have no choice of exam dates, they should set their exam dates and verify their exam calendars. They must align the exam dates with board exams and other competitive exams. Otherwise, it may lead to chaos.
Experts advise that an aspirant must prioritise their needs and prepare thoroughly to sit only those specific exams.
