The National Testing Agency has extended the deadline for the identity verification for candidates appearing for the JEE Main 2026 examination until January 15, 2026. The affected candidates will receive a link to their registered email address. The candidate must upload the attested identity verification certificate in the PDF form and carry it to the JEE Main exam hall for physical verification.
NTA flagged candidates whose identities did not match. Such candidates should submit a declaration form attested by their college principal or Headmaster. Still, the NTA received complaints from across the country that they were unable to submit due to a shortage of attesting officials. For this issue as well, the NTA has extended the deadline and expanded access for attesting signatories across departments. Here is the list of officials authorised to certify the certificate. They include Class-1 Gazetted Officers, such as tehsildars, revenue officers, sub-divisional magistrates, district magistrates, and Class-1 Gazetted Officers of the Indian Embassy, when referring to NRI candidates.
While scrutinising the application forms, NTA could identify a discrepancy. For several candidates, the uploaded photograph did not match the Unique Identification Authority of India records. In some cases, the picture did not align with the alternative proof permitted by the NTA.
NTA Provides Remedial Measures for such affected candidates. These candidates should upload the attested certificate and a recent photograph. The photograph must be signed partly on the paper and partly on the picture. The physical copy of the uploaded certificate must be carried to the JEE Main exam hall along with the hall ticket as proof of the candidate's identity. This time, the NTA has relaxed the norms and extended the deadline for submission of the required documents to January 15, 2026.
Note:
The National Testing Agency (NTA) maintains two helpline numbers and an email address for assistance. JEE aspirants requiring assistance can contact the counsellors by phone or email. They are 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or email jeemain@nta.ac.in.
