Important note:
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is responsible for the choice-filling process and invites candidates to secure their seats in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, & Central Govt. Funded Institutions.
Seats in all 23 IITs are filled only through counselling of JEE Advanced 2026 qualified candidates.
Although NTA has announced that 2 lakh qualified JEE Main 2026 candidates are eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2026, only 1.8 lakh to 1.9 lakh candidates have participated across the nation on May 17, 2026. According to expert analysis and student reactions, the paper is considered moderately to highly challenging compared to the previous year. The first observation is that paper 2 was tougher than paper 1, and many said it was harder and lengthier. But in both papers, one thing was common: Mathematics was time-consuming and could be viewed as the toughest. Physics commanded deep conceptual understanding and multi-concept application. The chemistry paper was thought to be easy to score, but the candidates encountered tricky parts in the questions.
The early release of the JEE Advanced question paper and the candidates' answer sheets on the official website provides candidates with a degree of certainty about their marks. Further, it allows them to plan early for admissions and counselling. NTA wants to maintain complete transparency in the evaluation process, and the candidate's response sheet allows them to compare their marked responses and estimate their scores well before the answer key is announced.
