Synopsis:
A day before, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the dates for JEE Mains 2026, sessions 1 & 2 to be held in January and April 2026. According to NTA, the JEE Mains examination process will be a computer-based test, and both the session exams will run for a week. They are Session 01, January 21 to 30, 2026, and Session 02, April 01 to 10, 2026. The NTA's official website is yet to open the link, and aspirants can begin the online application filling process carefully. Before that, learn the process of filling and submitting the online application, for which, below are a few tips that can facilitate filling and submitting the online application in a hassle-free manner.
NTA conducts a nationwide entrance exam, the JEE Mains 2026 and the JEE Advanced 2026 exam in a sequence, each bearing its own significance.
JEE Mains is for admissions to undergraduate engineering programs in the streams of engineering and technology at the national-level institutions.
Top achievers in JEE Mains can seek admission to NITs, IIITs, and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) that belong to the national level.
Aspirants who are unable to face the competition at the national level can take admissions to the state-level institutions recognized by the state governments and other privately funded institutions.
Aspirants who take interest in undergraduate studies in architecture and planning shall have to undertake JEE Mains Paper 2.
Students who show interest in taking the session 2 examination will have to enroll through online application, in the same manner as for session 01, but will have to wait until the last week of January 2026.
For Sessions 1 and 2, the examination shall be conducted in two shifts, one from 9 am to 12 noon and the other from 3 pm to 6 pm.

An applicant must visit the official website @ jeemain.nta.nic.in.
On the home page, an active registration link shall be available until the closure of the submission date. Click the link for the JEE Main 2026 registration.
The applicant must make an entry of details carefully and login to the registered account, keeping a note of the login credentials.
After completion of the application form, the aspirant must make the application fee.
After completion of the application fee, click the submit button and download the page and a printout must be kept for future reference.
Filling out the JEE Mains 2026 application forms is laborious, and to ease the work of the JEE aspirants, NTA has shared its burden by picking up responsibility in certain crucial areas. There is always a likelihood of committing errors by making wrong entries in the online application, which can result in the rejection of an applicant's application.
With lakhs of aspirants taking JEE Mains, NTA wants to support those aspirants by enabling them to submit an online application on time accurately. NTA has issued an official notice on the website on September 29, 2025. It states that the details of the applicant's name, date of birth, gender, photograph, and address shall be collected from the UIDAI through Aadhaar authentication. The applicant must fill out the remaining unfilled fields, such as parent details.
An aspirant may have a name mismatch in the Aadhaar card and 10th marksheet, and under such circumstances, there is a provision to overcome it. NTA has informed to the aspirants through a public notice dated on November, 06 2024 that has mentioned the procedure of making the necessary alternations. Two areas where NTA plans to ease up on JEE Mains aspirants are by increasing the number of examination centers, which can help aspirants feel comfortable in the examination hall due to expansion in space.
The NTA takes additional care in protecting the interests of the physically disabled aspirants who appear along with others.

JEE Mains 2026 is one of the toughest national-level examinations, with a larger composition of aspirants taking the entrance examination. In 2026, at least 25 lakh candidates are expected to participate in this national level engineering entrance exam. As all national-level engineering and technological institutions are filled through admissions only through the JEE Mains qualified aspirants, it becomes incumbent on behalf of NTA to conduct, evaluate, and provide admission to an engineering aspirant in an unbiased manner and maintain high-level transparency.
