“Will NEET 2026 be easy or tough?” This question comes up every year. What's the truth? The exam level is mostly moderate. What's tough? The competition. Today, millions of students take the exam. With limited seats available, even if the paper is easy, you still need very high marks. Reality Check: Numbers you can’t ignore. NEET applicants this year are around 20–24 lakh students each year. MBBS seats in India: about 1 lakh (including private and government). Government MBBS seats are around 55,000–60,000. Safe score for top government colleges are around 650–700+. The point is simple whether the paper is easy or tough, the race is for marks. “Paper Isn’t Tough; the Pattern Has Changed”
There are more statement-based questions.
More multi-concept questions are appearing.
Direct memory-based questions have decreased. Options that create confusion have increased. This means, just memorizing won’t work. Concepts, clarity, and elimination skills equal marks.
One of the biggest recent changes is the removal of optional questions. Earlier, students had some
Flexibility in Section B where they could choose which questions to attempt.
Now, all 180 questions are compulsory. This means you can no longer rely on skipping weak areas. You need clarity across almost the entire syllabus.
This single change has made preparation more demanding and less forgiving.
Physics will be moderate but heavy on concepts. Expect mixed, numerical, and statement-based questions. The difference between top rankers and average students is Physics. Most Important Chapters (Non-Negotiable) in physics are Mechanics (especially Laws of Motion, Work Energy Power), Current Electricity, Modern Physics and Ray Optics.
Chemistry will have chemical bonding, coordination compounds, organic basics and reactions, thermodynamics.
Biology important chapter will have genetics and evolution, human physiology, ecology and cell biology.
Another important trend is the increasing weightage of Class 12 syllabus. Recent analysis shows that around 50–55% of the paper is coming from Class 12 topics, while 45–50% is from Class 11.
This means that having strong Class 12 fundamentals is absolutely critical for selection. Ignoring this balance can cost you heavily.
Class 12 First (Priority Mode), weekdays, focus on Class 12 syllabus. Target finish it by mid or late November. Step 2: Study 11th Biology in parallel. By November, you should have a strong grasp of Biology. Most of Organic and Inorganic is covered in Class 12. Use this to your benefit. In Physics concentrate on problem-solving. Revise the basics and solve various questions. This phase will decide your rank.
Final Truth You Need to Hear: Don't panic. NEET isn’t impossible. Consistency is rare. In a changing pattern, random preparation doesn’t work. Structured guidance matters. Institutes like Resonance College design their preparation based on this pattern shift, update test series, NCERT-focused teaching, regular performance tracking and analysis. Right strategy, right revision, and the right mindset equal a MBBS seat.
