Key Advice for Students and Parents ( JD & Purnachandra Rao garu)

  1. Parents must be actively involved with students and help them explore their interests and strengths at an early stage in life.

  2. Parents and students should research career options by actively engaging with undergraduate students currently pursuing their career of interest in engineering and medical streams. In this issue, parents and students must visit institutions at the central and state levels to gain a comprehensive understanding of real-world scenarios.

  3. The parent and the student must select an institution that suits their needs and gain admission to fulfil their dreams. Experts say it is possible to score high in academic and career-competitive exams by participating in a balanced preparation program

  4. Parents and their children ( students) must make decisions based on their personal preferences and should never be influenced by peer pressure.

  5. A student must understand that self-respect can be achieved by striving for merit, and that this further boosts confidence rather than demanding it from peers.

  6. Parents and students must restrict their engagement with social media to limit distractions

  7. Parents must improve their cognitive skills by engaging in activities such as puzzles and chess, which enable right-brain development.

  8. Parents must expose their children to the real-life stories nd interviews that keep them active and motivated.

  9. Parents must provide good nutrition and monitor their child's general health while the child is under rigorous study schedules.

  10. Parents and the student must realise that learning careers means understanding the efforts that go into long-term planning.

  11. Parents should encourage their child to embrace technology and AI tools to enhance their learning process, rather than viewing them as a threat.

Current Competitive Trends in India: Engineering Stream

In India, 16 lakh engineering seats are available, yet there is intense competition with around 30 to 50 lakh aspirants at the national level.

Although this is the current scenario, about 1 lakh seats remain vacant annually, and in 2025, 6500 seats in Hyderabad alone were vacant.

Students with qualifying marks in JEE Main can secure engineering seats. Still, the desire to secure an engineering seat at a premier college can leave a student struggling with preparation.

Experts say there is a huge rush for IIT when compared to other colleges. IIT offers greater placement opportunities in a global scenario, and even the packages awarded are higher than anticipated. But beyond the better packages and brand value, it is the mindset development that matters the most. Students who qualify from IITs dream of job givers and not job seekers.

Career prospects: Engineering graduates can pursue opportunities in IT, startups, research, and higher education.

Current Competitive Trends in India: Medicine Stream

Every year, at the national level, NEET is conducted to fill 75000 medical college seats, of which approximately 9000 are in Telangana. Thus, NEET creates a roughly 1:9 competition. In every state, 85 per cent of medical seats are reserved for local candidates. The medicine preparation requires a lot of patience and dedication, and one must be aware that the MBBS is a 5-year course. Without postgraduate and other advanced courses, a student pursuing medical studies has no value in society. NEET is difficult and requires sincere preparation, and for admission to a good institution, one must pursue it seriously.

If a student fails to meet the admission requirements for an MBBS college, several alternative courses are available for BPC-opted students. The alternative courses are BSc courses in agriculture, forestry, botany, biochemistry, microbiology, veterinary sciences, Ayurveda, homoeopathy, and pharmacy, which offer good opportunities with campus placements.

Career Prospects: Currently, the medical professionals and life sciences graduates have significant employment prospects in hospitals, research, pharmaceuticals, and allied sectors.
